HELP THE LIONS

Volunteers/interns are needed to help with daily husbandry, exhibit construction, and public relations. Please read the entire volunteer information on this website before contacting us. We need individuals and groups!

Individual Volunteers

For safety concerns, volunteers must be 18 years or older. Also for safety concerns for you and the animals, we do NOT allow volunteers/interns to touch or have any contact with the carnivores. Most of the animals at T&D's fall into this category. So, what can volunteers do? Volunteers help with a variety of aspects of animal care - some cleaning and feeding, food preparation, animal enrichment, ground maintenance, exhibit construction, giving tours, and helping the public. Our program is comparable to a small animal keeper.

During May through September, to be considered a volunteer, we ask that a person volunteers 3-4 hours during the week and one weekend day from 1pm - 5pm.  During October through April, to be considered a volunteer we ask for a minimum of 6 hours per week.  If you are interested in volunteering, please visit our volunteer packet which includes an application, agreement, FAQ for test, and a study guide for the required test which is taken prior to volunteering.   Please email us after you have gone over the material for any additional questions or to set up a time for an interview.

HELP THE LIONSInterns
Depending on what individual university requires, internships can be similar to volunteering or move specific, such as having an approved project. A new internship was created for those interested in Enrichment.  Internships can be discussed in more detail.

HELP THE LIONS DOCENT
Become a docent ! What is a docent ? A docent is a volunteer who is interested in educating the public about specific animals. Usually docents are stationed in a section of a zoo or rescue and answer any questions about those animals that visitor's may have.  Docents may also give tours, make enrichment items, organize fundraisers, accomplish small projects, and help during special events.  Since this requires a fair amount of time, docents are usually retired persons. T&D's needs docents. Please email or call us if you are interested!

HELP THE LIONSGroups
Groups are needed for larger projects such as dragging brush, staining, painting, construction, etc. Girl and Boy Scouts, University fraternities, sororities, and environmental groups, and other groups have helped the animals in the past. Groups are also welcome to help by having fundraisers. We always need funding for materials or materials for new projects! Please contact us for current projects and how you can help!
