The Primates at T&D's Receive New Winter  and Summer Housing

During September and October 2004, Terry, TJ, and Jack (a T&D's Volunteer) spent numerous hours getting the primate building finished enough to move the primates before November. Terry and TJ worked on completing the 8 inside enclosures while Jack put the finishing touches on the ceiling. TJ decorated the enclosures with trees that allow the animals access to the entire area. Seven of the enclosure are 6x12x14 ft and the eighth one is 12x12x14 ft.

The last weekend in October 2004 was moving day for the animals. The black and white ruffed lemur, common brown lemur, ring tail lemur, and spider monkey were successfully moved. They adjusted quite quickly.

Construction on the outside enclosures began in Spring 2005. We were able to finish the outside summer visitor viewing area on July 15! Six exhibits varying in sizes were constructed out of 4x4x12 posts, one inch wire, and 2x6x16 lumber. Ropes and perches were added for the primates to swing from and play on. The spider monkeys and lemurs (brown, ring-tailed, and ruffed) are on exhibit for the rest of the season. Since these primates are native to South America and Madagascar, respectively, they will be moved inside sometime in November when the weather becomes colder.

We can not continue our efforts without help from the public. The animals need generous
people, like you, to help provide food, large enclosures, enrichment, and veterinarian care.
